About Talia …

“I have to say, being involved with my mentees – Talia and Michelle – is indeed enriching my life.  They are vibrant, open, and can be so funny and fun.   It is delightful to watch them develop and I learn much more from them than I suspect they are learning from me.  I find it fascinating to see how they navigate life and love understanding what is important in the lives of kids that age.  It is a wonderful journey and I am so pleased to be involved with the program and my mentees.” – Donna

“It is a genuine honour for me to be part of the Tom Jackson Stay in School program. While I know this initiative is designed for mentors to help provide guidance to young people, it is also an incredible opportunity for people like me to widen our perspectives and deepen our appreciation for the challenges faced by vulnerable populations like our community’s aboriginal youth. The experience has and continues to be thoroughly rewarding. I am inspired by the fact that despite economic, social and cultural barriers, my young friend maintains a zest for life, a strong creative flare and a commitment to personal growth. Our time together is always enjoyable and as we work through some of life’s roadblocks, I am proud to be walking alongside her on her journey toward a brighter future. Talia’s zest for life, humankind, creativity, aspirations for personal and academic growth are truly inspiring qualities. Our time together is always meaningful and together we overcome some of life’s roadblocks and seek out new possibilities while she carves her own path towards a brighter future.” – Melanie
