Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth

About

The Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth (USAY) is an organization that supports Indigenous youth ages 12 to 29 years old that live in the City of Calgary. With the funds raised through ArtTalks and matched by the Calgary Foundation, USAY supports many and varied programs involving up to 4000 of Calgary’s Indigenous youth and their families.

USAY has seen a substantial increase among participants that are unable to meet their basic needs on a regular basis. In a recent literacy assessment 87% of participants were accessing food supports on a regular basis.

“92% of Indigenous youth in USAY’s programs feel more connected to their culture; a huge accomplishment when 69% of Indigenous youth are in the child welfare system and detached from their families.”
